Conclusions

Standard

The grassroot media-campaign A-team Slovenia set up is difficult to measure or assess its range. Through personal contacts A-teamers did got some reactions, either they were talking to persons who noticed the posters and were intrigued by them or someone told them people were talking about the posters. Most comments were about how surprised people were to see non-commercial and stimulating content on billboards.

Also one must not forget that almost 110 posters were publicly visible  for almost two months on main and very frequented streets.

Reactions. Uf, and they were.

Standard

Slovenia is quite a peacefull and sleepy country, even demonstrations of radicals, if there are any, are polite.  The radicals in our country are the politicians, anyway. And they got it this time. All the way. As they never did in this country, ever. And it started in Maribor, the town where A-team was at work. Soon after the first or second wave of our posters being published hell broke loose. Lets let the pictures do the work:

The c(h)ampaign

Standard

There was no champaign. Who put an “h” in the title? Darn. Please remove it. It doesn’t belong there. It must be a sabotage.

But a sabotage almost hapend as we wanted to go public with our project. Sincerly. And we loved it. Hehe. But, patience, we’ll come to that. First things first.

Heiko ordered prints for posters and billboards and Borut W reserved billboards of two formats with the local public company.Enthusiastic as we were, we emidiately distributed them over the city – no no – just over the floor of Heikos place. Now history and science can be happy, we do have a picture of this event.

First discussions. And ideas. And drinks.

Standard

Of course first discussions were impossible without coffee. Or was it beer? There is nothing that hurts a working relationship like a non existend human relationship between A-team heroes. Khm. And then we had another drink. Or was it two. Which by now counts as tree. Damn. This art thing is getting out of control. No no no. Stop. It wasn’t like that at all. AT ALL! First working meeting was like that:

THE A(-team)RTIST

My name is Heiko Beck Kos and i am working as an artist most of the time in public spaces.

I am a simple guy, who never had the idea of becoming or wanting to be an artist. I more or less swept into this kind of „profession“.

As i grew up in a real conservative household in bavaria / germany, my focus i was teached, was education, making career and building up more and more material safety. I really tried to go for it and did quite well. From my childhood on it was obvious, that there are some little creativ or artistic talents. But i never had the idea of studying art. The reason why i didn`t do this was simple. There is no money to make and no chance for a material safety. So i studied communication-design, which still covered the part of being creativ and beside this, gave me the chance to earn money. Like i said, surprisingly i wasn`t that bad and so had the chance to buy expensive things, i thought i needed.

I did this until a kind of burnout knocked me out. I started doing a psychological therapy and after a year (still going on with my job in an event agency) i found out, that this is not my way and quit the job.

About Pekarna

Standard

Pekarna-magdalenske mreze is a non-governmental, non-profit institution. It is founded as an organisation for encouraging and supporting programme and project cooperation among individuals and groups conducting artistic, cultural, educational, research, ecological, informative and humanitarian activities.

An additional aim of the organisation is to grant assistance in solving their short or long-term residential needs for creative spaces. The centre was established in 1996 by three different associations (Association of dolphine friends, Alternative music workshop, Gallery house). It is situated in a former military bakery, occupied in 1994, and is now the biggest alternative cultural centre in north-east Slovenia.

The beginning

Standard

4 A-Teams in 4 countries, 4 artists working with a cultural manager and supported by a local mediator. And here the story will be told. Every A-Team is challenged with a very specific theme but as if this wasn´t challenge enough, they will enter an unusual collaboration and act as a small collective intelligence into which each component brings specific skills: artistic  sensibility and vision, managerial ability and vision and deep knowledge of the territory. The specific mix of both skills and personalities confronting the previously defined theme will determine the nature of the process and its outputs. This is a place for documentation, reflection and exchange. Between the components of one A-Team, between the different A-Teams, between A-Teams and the public, be it artists, cultural workers, locals, NGO´s, administrators or other.
